Forever and Always - A Reflection
(for symphony orchestra)
2022
Forever and Always: A Reflection is a programmatic composition that seeks to be a part of the ever-growing theme of self-expression in music by being a musical representation of personal emotions and feelings. My intention in composing this piece was to reflect upon the devastation that incurred in my life and those lives around me when a tragic shooting occurred at my school of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High on February 14th, 2018. In addition to this reflection, I want to illustrate the eventual triumph and hopefulness that came later, after having had time to grow from this tragedy. The piece contains various references to the number “17” because of the fallen students and faculty members, and my desire to make this composition feel connected to real life. In addition to this, I chose to orchestrate and compose this piece in a similar style to the great John Williams, because his music was and has been one of the most inspiring and uplifting things in my life since this tragedy took place. In summary of the structure of the music, this work for symphony orchestra will pass through a series of three movements: Normalcy, Devastation, and Triumph. The music will begin with a seemingly normal yet romantic-filled day due to the reflection of Valentine’s Day. The music will then be suddenly halted into a place of extreme tragedy and horror, developing even further into a place of sadness. And finally, the music will conclude with the growing hopefulness of a triumphant unity of a strong community of survivors and believers. This is Forever and Always: A Reflection, dedicated to the 17 eagles that were lost on that tragic day. Fly high and be forever and always present in our hearts and in our memories.

A Curious Eclipse
(for symphony orchestra)
2022
A Curious Eclipse is a piece that I wrote that is meant to depict the series of events that took place from my perspective when the total solar eclipse of December 4th, 2021 took place. I had woken up at around 4:00AM in the middle of the night to try to capture a glimpse of the event, but to my surprise and disappointment, I would only be greeted with a cloudy, Miami sky with loads of light pollution. This composition will highlight the feelings and emotions I experienced on that day, and I hope that you can immerse yourself in the suspenseful yet blasé soundscape of A Curious Eclipse.

Exodus
(for wind ensemble)
2021
Exodus is inspired by the great deserts of Egypt and the accompanying scenery. The Great Pyramid of Giza, the Great Sphinx of Giza, and the Tomb of Tutankhamun are wonderful treasures that could stand as magnificent structures in this composition's story. Imagine a massive trek across the sands that takes you on a journey through the history and culture of Egypt. This piece of music combines elements of Egyptian themes and galactic motives, forming a musical story of power, desolation, and triumph. Join the music's narrative as you become a part of the Exodus.

Epsilon Sagittarii
(for brass quintet)
2021
Epsilon Sagittarii was inspired by the characteristics and attributes of the Sagittarius astrological sign and constellation. This zodiac symbol commonly comes to life in the form of the mythological creature, the Centaur, which is a combination of half human and half horse. Centaurs are known for their expertise in archery, and the constellation of Sagittarius depicts a Centaur in an archer's stance. The brightest star of the constellation is known as Epsilon Sagittarii, and it is this star that provided most of the inspiration for this piece. Throughout the first movement, Amongst the Stars, one may hear the sounds of astrological beauty and grace, whereas the second movement, The Archer's Challenge, reflects narrative conflict and development. Listen to the music and find yourself immersed in the story of Epsilon Sagittarii.

The Boon of Venus
(for chamber orchestra)
2020
The Boon of Venus was inspired by the great film music compositions of composers John Williams, Alexandre Desplat, Peter Graham, and Alan Silvestri. What makes these composers' music so special to me is the emotional impact that they have had on me. A well-written film music composition can immerse you into a fantasy world that seems so real, and that is what I love about film music. This piece emulates a romantic and lyrical melody that intends to place the listener into a story of admiration and wonder. Our story begins with a young astronomer who observes the beauty of the planet Venus in the night sky. He wishes that the planet could always be in view from the Earth; that he could take in its enchantment during all hours of the day. The rest of the story unfolds as the young astronomer cannot get the thoughts of Venus out of his head and he decides that he needs to take a journey to the planet once and for all. This passionate roller-coaster will send you through a magnificent world of adoration as you get closer to the charm that is Venus.

Winged Chameleon
(for percussion quintet)
2020
Winged Chameleon was a dreamt-of creature of the imagination of composer Max J. Fink. The animal possesses all of the characteristics of a normal chameleon, except that it has wings. As this creature ventures into the wild, his journey is told through various colors and atmospheres. While listening to this piece, try to picture a sort of “psychedelic” scene filled with animation and pulse. This composition was also inspired by the sounds and culture of Afro-Cuba. Listen for the “Mozambique” figure hidden within the textures of sounds and try to make out the collaborative syncopations of the ensemble as each of the percussionists feed off of one another’s energy. Take a journey through a rainforest of color as you follow the path of the Winged Chameleon.
